my

flat earth

story

How did I become the ultimate stereotypical conspiracy theorist, and turn into a “flat earther”?

I can’t tell you exactly when I became a Flat Earther, but it was roughly a year ago.

The Covid narrative opened my eyes to the depth and breadth of the evil and deception taking place in our world.

But I remember saying to someone at some point – “as much of a ‘conspiracy theorist’ as I am, Flat Earth is something I will never consider. I’d never go that far”.

Until I did.

I was in several Telegram groups, and in one particular group, the owner stated repeatedly and blatantly, that the earth was, in fact, flat. She was so matter-of-fact about it, that I was compelled to start digging.

Of course, my first thoughts were how ridiculous it was, how could they possibly lie about something so huge (and why would they lie?)

And then, of course, all the “but what about…?” questions:

  • If all the planets are balls, why would Earth be flat?
  • What about all the pictures of Earth from space?
  • Are all the people at NASA lying?
  • What about satellites?
  • How would sunrises and sunsets work?
  • How would seasons work?
  • Wouldn’t pilots know?
  • What about the ships that disappear over the horizon?

Determined to find answers so I could disprove this ridiculous notion, the video she recommended to watch was 200 Proofs Earth is Not a Spinning Ball.

It’s a pretty long video, over 2 hours long, but about 15 minutes in, I was already convinced. Not only was I convinced, but I was amazed that I ever believed that water could bend around, and stick to, the outside of a giant ball, and that Australians lived upside down on the bottom of a ball, but didn’t notice, because “gravity”.

How could I have been so easily deceived? How could I have denied my own lived experience?

  • We are taught that we are whipping around on a ball, orbiting around a sun, and corkscrewing through space, while, somehow, we feel as though we’re perfectly still.
  • We see the sun moving across the sky, but are convinced that it’s not the sun that is moving, it is us that is moving.
  • We see a perfectly still, motionless lake – how could that be possible if it were whipping around in circles?
  • If gravity exists, and is powerful enough to stick oceans to the outside of a ball, and to keep tall buildings and people stuck to the bottom of it, then how is it that birds can fly? Or helium balloons can float?
  • We see that water is always perfectly level. Water seeks to find level. In fact, levels use water to determine level. How could I believe that water bends 8″ for every square mile?
  • Polaris, the North Star, is always in the exact same place. The constellations rotate in a predictable pattern, and have since the beginning of time. How would that be possible if we are corkscrewing through space? Wouldn’t the stars always be changing?
  • How could I have believed that a machine made out of tin foil and curtain rods could have transported men to the moon? And that they called President Nixon from a land line?

I suddenly felt as though a thick veil had finally been lifted, and I could see things as they really are. I felt free. I felt like I had a happy little secret that I could carry around in my heart.

As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t really shout it from the rooftops. Because the truth is, most people prefer to live in a lie than to entertain the idea that they were deceived. And since Flat Earth is the ultimate deception, those who haven’t already climbed the staircase, aren’t ready for it.

If you search on Google or Youtube for Flat Earth, what you will find are plenty of disinformation websites and videos. They purposely plant content to make Flat Earthers look ridiculous. They want people to search for it, see how ridiculous it is, and then put it behind them, never to consider it again.

I’m sharing here, to help others who are ready, find the information I was able to access.
